Overview #
Without One-time Charge:
By default, when customers add the main product and the add-on product (with extra charge) to their cart, the quantity of the add-on product added will match the quantity of the main product (except when using the quantity selector to select specific quantity for each option).
For example, if users increase the quantity of the main product to 5 and add it to the cart, the add-on product quantity in the cart will also be 5. This means that if customers buy 5 main products, they will also be charged for 5 add-on products.
However, in some cases, merchants may prefer the add-on product quantity to always be 1 when added with the main product, regardless of the main product’s quantity.
With One-time Charge:
The One-time charge feature is designed to address this need by fixing the quantity of the add-on product in the cart at 1, even if the main product quantity is greater than 1. In other words, even if customers purchase multiple main products, they will only be charged once for the add-on product.
In other words, the One-time charge feature makes the add-on product charge independent of the quantity of the main product purchased.
Notes:
You can activate the one-time charge feature when using an Add-on product. This Add-on product might be free or come with a cost.
The one-time charge can be applied in 2 ways:
- Per product: The charge is applied only once for a specific product. It’s important to note that different product variants are treated as separate products. Similarly, products with different custom options are also considered distinct.
- Per cart/ per order (upcoming): If there are multiple products with associated one-time charge options (Add-on products), customers can be charged once per order. This means even if they add multiple products, they’ll only be charged once or given only one Add-on product.

- Engraving: Charge a one-time fee for engraving setup.
- Additional Instructions: Charge a fixed fee for instruction manuals, regardless of the quantity of widgets purchased.
- Fast Delivery (Rush my order): Charge once for fast delivery, applied to all items in one order.
- Installation Service: Charge once for installation service, even with multiple items.
- Premium Packaging: Charge once for premium packaging options, regardless of the number of items ordered.
- Free Gift: Offer one free gift per order.
How To Set Up The One-time Charge #
- Create an Option Set: Begin by creating an option set. Add the necessary custom options and then assign the option set to your relevant products. Refer to this guide for detailed instructions on creating a new option set.
- Associate with Add-on Products: Identify the specific Add-on products with which you want to associate the option that triggers the one-time charge.
- Configure One-time Charge: Navigate to the Advanced Settings” tab and check the box for One-time charge. Next, choose whether you want to apply the one-time charge per product (which is most common) or per cart/order (a feature coming soon).
- Save and Check Results: Save the option set settings, and then head to your storefront to see the results in action.
