By default, the Easify Product Options app enhances your cart page by merging add-on products with the main product, giving it a cleaner look. Here’s how it works:
- Unified Display: Add-on products appear under the main product name in the cart, creating a streamlined view.
- Quantity Sync: The quantity of add-ons is tied to the quantity of the main product, except when you enable the one-time charge feature, which limits the add-on product quantity to 1, regardless of the main product’s quantity.
- Main Product Dependency: Customers can’t purchase add-ons without the main product. If the main product is removed, the add-ons are removed as well.

Default Settings:
In the app’s Settings page, the default setting is to Merge main product with add-ons (displaying add-ons as custom options of the main product).
This setting applies globally to all option sets created by the app. However, you can change these settings to separate the add-ons from the main product in the cart. There are 2 types of separation available, which we’ll explain below.
Displaying Add-on Products Separately in the Cart #
There are 2 main reasons you might want to separate add-ons from the main product in the cart:
- Independent Separation: You want the add-on products to function independently from the main product. Customers can adjust quantities or remove them separately.
- Dependent Separation: You want a clearer presentation but still want the add-ons to depend on the main product, meaning they can’t be bought alone, and their quantity depends on the main product’s quantity.
Here’s how to set up each scenario in the Easify Product Options app:
1. Making Add-on Products Independent: #
To allow add-ons to be independent from the main product:
- Go to each option in your option set.
- Open the Advanced settings tab.
- Select the “Separate main and add-on products in the cart for independent quantity changes” checkbox.
Demo:
This setup lets customers remove or change the quantity of either the main or add-on products separately. For example:
IMPORTANT
The “Separate main and add-on products in the cart for independent quantity changes” setting should only be enabled when you are linking Add-on Products with your options.
If you enable this setting for custom options that do not include Add-on Products, it could cause selected options to be HIDDEN in both the cart and checkout pages. This might confuse customers, as they won’t see the options they selected on the product pages.
Therefore, make sure you fully understand this feature before enabling it. Use it only when it aligns with your specific needs.
2. Separating Add-ons While Keeping Dependency: #
If you want add-ons to display separately but still be dependent on the main product:
- Do not enable the “Separate main and add-on products in cart” option in the Advanced settings tab.
- Instead, go to the app’s Settings page.
- Scroll down to the Add-on Product Display On Cart section.
- Select “Display add-ons separately from the main product (without the option to remove or change quantity)” and save your changes.
Demo:
In this setup, add-ons are listed separately, but customers can’t remove them or change their quantities since they’re still linked to the main product.
As you can see, the Quantity selector and Remove button for Add-on Products are hidden on the cart page. If the main product is removed, all associated add-on products will be automatically deleted as well, ensuring that customers cannot purchase add-on products without the main product.
Frequently Asked Questions #
What happens if I enable both the global setting and the Advanced setting for specific options? #
a. If both “Separate…” settings are enabled:
For all option sets, the global “Separate…” setting applies, keeping add-ons and the main product separate in the cart while maintaining their dependency.
For options where you’ve also enabled the “Separate…” setting in the Advanced settings tab, this setting takes priority. Add-ons will be listed separately and can be removed or adjusted independently of the main product.
b. If “Separate…” is enabled in Advanced settings and “Merge…” in global settings:
The global “Merge…” setting combines add-ons with the main product in the cart.
However, the Advanced settings will still take priority for specific options, allowing those add-ons to be listed separately and independently of the main product.
In summary: The “Separate…” setting in the Advanced settings tab always takes precedence. If it’s not enabled, the global setting is applied.
What if multiple main products with the same add-ons are added to the cart? #
a. If “Separate…” is enabled in the Advanced settings:
The shared add-ons from different main products will be merged into a single item in the cart. The quantity of this item will reflect the total number of add-ons for all the main products combined.
Demo:
b. If “Separate…” is enabled in global settings:
The shared add-ons will still be shown as separate items, each associated with its respective main product in the cart (and in the checkout page).
Demo:
How are add-on products displayed during checkout? #
Due to Shopify’s restrictions, the app can’t merge Add-ons with the Main product on the checkout page. Add-ons and main products will always be listed separately during checkout, regardless of your settings.
